Rules and Guidelines for Student Use of GenAI

WUR's rules on the use of generative AI come in three forms: the general rules and guidelines for student use of GenAI, the Examining Boards rules on its use in assessment, and the specific conditions that apply to theses. The pages in this section address each in turn.

Rules and Guidelines for Student Use of GenAI

WUR's Rules and Guidelines for Student Use of GenAI set out acceptable use through five main principles:

  1. Always check your course guide in Brightspace.
  2. Use GenAI to enhance, not replace, your academic skills.
  3. Maintain academic integrity and be transparent.
  4. Use GenAI tools consciously and critically.
  5. Mind your data security.

For the full explanation of each principle, see the complete document: Rules and guidelines for student use of GenAI 2026-2027 (PDF).
